The White House Painting Group has developed their own creative designs for common domestic objects associated with simple acts of care, such as cups, bowls, tea towels and plates, for use at The White House and as a range of souvenirs from Becontree.
The painting group has been meeting at The White House every week for many years, the group led by local resident and painter, Miro Tomarkin, gather to paint and draw together, learn new techniques and produce their own artworks and exhibitions. The group is centred around friendship, care and support.
The act of making and sharing food and drink together is central to The White House and our community. From making a cup of tea for one another, baking cakes for a session or cooking a meal together in The White House kitchen; food and drink is something that is shared amongst everyone that uses the house, generating a sense of togetherness.
This small and intimate act of care is being marked by The White House Painting group through a new series of artworks which were launched as part of the Becontree estate’s centenary programme in 2021.
The White House Painting Group is an open and free group that was formed at The White House in 2017. The group gather every week to paint and draw together, learn new painting techniques and produce their own artworks and exhibitions. The group is led by local resident and painter, Miro Tomarkin. The painting group forms part of the Front Room Programme, a regular public programme of creative activities designed and facilitated by local people at The White House.
