Double Pendulum is a new film created by artist Faisal Abdu’Allah, which extends his fascination with the human form and explores breathing and movement with Olympic athletes and scientists in the run up to London 2012. The work will be shown at the View Tube as a large scale projection against the backdrop of the Olympic Stadium for a single night in June.

Despite being invisible, the air that surrounds us is the most valued element that our lives depend on. Location, economics, ethnicity and even awareness are just some of the factors that effect lung development and function.

Double Pendulum, runs for a duration of 9’ 58” and has been determined according to the current 100 metre sprint world record of 9.58 seconds set by Usain Bolt in 2009. Three very different types of sports professionals will illustrate and map the journey that air takes through the human form alongside an engaging narrative from world-leading scientists who will allow us to understand and examine breathing in startling new ways.

The film will be launched at the View Tube on Wednesday 29 June at a special open-air screening overlooking the Olympic Stadium and will be on show thereafter in one of the View Tube’s containers daily until Sunday 17 July.  Double Pendulum is funded by the Wellcome Trust and Arts Council of England.
