The Station will be set up to facilitate cultural and creative engagement, social events and volunteering and employability activities for the residents of North Woolwich. It will also support artists, creative practitioners and social enterprises through affordable workspace. The Station building and its surrounding land will be repurposed as a multi-use, socially-minded and self-generating site – a place for collaboration, experimentation, acquiring new skills, developing creativity, socialising and interaction with people from all walks of life. At the heart of The Station’s vision is a commitment to creating a facility that will support social cohesion, community development, cultural activity and to make North Woolwich a better place for all to thrive and enjoy.
The Station will be managed by Create and working with Open School East. The refurbishment of the building and the land is supported through the Mayor of London’s London Regeneration Fund and supported by London Borough of Newham. The project is developed in partnership with the House Mill Trust. The architecture practice muf was appointed in March 2017 to refurbish the former North Woolwich station, to build additional workspace, and to turn the surrounding land into community garden and public resource.
