A series of free events hosted at Ram Place Fashion Market

Alongside the daily market Ram Place will host a series of free events, talks, workshops and performances.

VOGUE GOES ROGUE
12 July 2014 Procession starts at 12pm; evening event at 8pm

Lyall Hakaraia (Vogue Fabrics) presents an urban folk-art inspired happening. VOGUE GOES ROGUE takes fashion totems decorated by Craig Lawrence, Louize Harries and Laura Shepherd, on a procession from the Barbican to Ram Place Fashion Market, where the event climaxes in a fashion-inspired ceremonial rite. The procession leaves the Barbican at 12pm, stopping at London Fields/Broadway Market at 1.30pm and setting off again to Ram Place Fashion Market at 2pm.

WORKSHOP: STRIKE A POSE WITH GISELA TORRES
12 July 2014, From 2pm (15 min drop in slots)

Join fashion photographer Gisela Torres for your own styling and photography session at the Ram Place Fashion Market installation. Images will be available online later in the week. All ages (People under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult). 15 minute drop in slots per person from 2pm. Final session 4.45pm.

WRITE IS THE NEW BLACK WITH FEMI MARTIN
13 July 2014, from 2pm, drop in Come and take part in our writing and open mic session.

Let Femi guide you through storytelling and tell us all about your fashion successes and disasters, and even your lucky pants. All ages (People under 16years must be accompanied by an adult).

Patternity is a pattern focused research/consultancy department, award-winning creative studio and pioneering events and education hub. Join them on a specially commissioned ‘Patternitour’; a walking tour with a difference, looking at pattern as a tool to tell stories about the world in which we all live. REHASH: UPCYCLE ACCESSORIES WITH QUEENIE AND TED

Join Queenie and Ted to design and create vibrant, upcycled accessories using old t shirts, pom-poms, felt, fabric, trimmings, buttons and your own imagination.

WORKSHOP: JEWELLERY MAKING WITH KIRST KIRKPATRICK

Design, explore, create and find beauty in the once cherished and over looked. Incarnate fresh and eclectic, unique and wearable accessories, yours to keep forever. From the sustainable fashion jewellery label Uncommonly Beautiful. 12 years+ (People under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult).

IN CONVERSATION: TANSY HOSKINS, CARYN FRANKLIN AND JODIE FURLONG

Author Tansy Hoskins (Stitched Up: The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion) hosts a discussion on the theme of fashion, image and race. The panel includes fashion commentator Caryn Franklin and casting director Jody Furlong.

IN CONVERSATION: FASHION ON FILM
16 July 2014, 7.30pm

Hosted by fashion writer Nathalie Khan, this discussion explores the links between music video and fashion film. The panel includes filmmakers Kathryn Ferguson (Richard Nicoll, Lady Gaga) and Ruth Hogben (Gareth Pugh, Dior, Kanye West).

WORKSHOP: ETHICS, PUNK AND COUTURE WITH EMG INITIATIVE

Join EMG Initiative, founded by fashion designer and artist Alex Noble, to experiment with ethical and punk ideals using couture techniques and practices, from spray paint to crystals and buttons.

WORKSHOP: DESIGN AND MAKE: WORKING WITH LEATHER

Learn how to design and make your very own small leather accessories using simple leather craft techniques. Get creative and personalise your items with the London College of Fashion and Art Against Knives.

Art Against Knives works with young people living in areas of London affected by violent crime. Through creative opportunities, they support young people in making a permanent positive change to reduce the current culture of violent crime.

A collaborative project with Art Against Knives and London College of Fashion.

PERFORMANCE: THE VIVISECTOR
18 July 2014, 7.30pm

The Vivisector, inhabiting the role of Camoufleur, construct a life-size reimagining of one of Jean Paul Gaultier’s iconic couture gowns in moss and succulent plants.

WORKSHOP: FAST FASHION 2D MIX FIX WITH SLASHSTROKE
19 July 2014, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm

Slashstroke pull together an overview of key pieces and style hits from the season in life-size illustrations that you can mix and match to produce their own Fast Fashion 2D Mix Fix. Playing with proportion, scale, colour and pattern, participants are photographed in their own 2D collage mash up, creating a unique and dynamic fashion image.

All ages (Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult)

WALK: LOCAL HACKNEY HISTORY WALKING TOUR WITH EMILY JOST
19 July 2014, 2pm

A walk around the green oasis of St John at Hackney Churchyard, the final resting place of Hackney’s residents for over 500 years. Discover the stories behind the gravestones; from the royally-connected to local tradesmen, and from early global explorers to plague victims.

The walk ends with a climb up to the roof of Hackney’s oldest building, St Augustine’s Tower, to see the best views of the area. Emily Jost is the former Heritage Officer of St John at Hackney Churchyard. A Hackney resident, she is a keen local historian and currently works at Hackney Museum.

PERFORMANCE: DAVID HOYLE – SLAP

Sign up at the Barbican Information Stall. An evening featuring a one-off appearance by celebrated performance artist and anti-drag queen David Hoyle (The Divine David). Expect elegant anarchy and essential styling advice.

WORKSHOP: KNIT AND KNOT WITH MAKBULE
20 July 2014, 11.30–1.30pm

Bring along your old jewellery pieces for a crochet revival. London College of Fashion graduate Makbule Yanar transforms found objects and unwanted items into beautiful, delicately knitted jewellery pieces using her knit and knot techniques. Drop in and have a go.

PERFORMANCE: THE IRREPRESSIBLES
20 July 2014, 8pm

The Hackney WickED team curate an afternoon of live music with local musicians and bands. Fresh from their Nude tour, cult art-pop band The Irrepressibles finish our events programme in style with a one-off set, combining their unique sound with site-specific visuals.

The Event Space has a limited capacity and entry to it will be on a first come, first served basis; you are advised to arrive as early as possible before 7.30pm to guarantee entry.
