Art & Design magazine SLASHSTROKE, together with Middlesex University, produced a three day community-based summer school that forged links between industry, education and young people in Hackney. Working with a selection of passionate young people the project provided a practical introduction to the realities of creating visual content for contemporary fashion media.
As well as providing talks and workshops from creative professionals based in east London the event encouraged participants to develop their own individual abilities within the context of fashion and industry. The project instigated real connections between creativity and skills, providing guidance on how to gain experience and ultimately how to gain a foothold in the fashion and media industries. The culmination of the week saw participants invited to Middlesex University where they were awarded a qualification for their achievements.
Participants gained first hand information making contact with Fashion industry professionals and educators through styling, photography and graphic workshops utilising the best east London fashion labels in the creative hub of The Rose Lipman Building. This project was part sponsored by Middlesex University who gave participants a certificate of qualification on completion of the project.
